Every day, somebody says or does something that earns them the scorn of the internet. Here at Digg, as part of our mission to curate what the internet is talking about right now, we rounded up the main characters on X from this past week and held them accountable for their actions.

This week, we've got The Daily Mail robots thinking that "SNL" is real life, an extremely weird, tone-deaf and insulting proposal and a new internet celebrity with an unique catchphrase.

Saturday

The Daily Mail

The character: The Daily Mail, right-wing British tabloid, Natalie Portman rap truther

The plot: Earlier this month, The Daily Mail wrote an article about celebrity smokers that had quite an interesting tidbit: It claims that she consumed both marijuana and cocaine in college. Of course, there's no reason to believe that is the case unless you, for some reason, took her infamous "SNL" rap seriously. Surely, a human would never do that, but it is possible that some sort of large language model would. Hmm.

They eventually edited out the odd claims (with no editorial note), and instead explicitly mentioned the "SNL" skit. Maybe there really is a human working on that article.

The repercussion: While we can't say for sure that this outlet is definitely using AI to create unreliable copy, the rest of the internet certainly believes that to be the case. As if that paper's reputation wasn't already in the toilet, this certainly won't help improve things.

Addison Smith

The character: Addison Smith, Newsmax reporter, homophobe

The plot: Asking the person you love to marry you is usually a deeply special, happy, romantic moment -- but, if you're a total weirdo like Addison Smith is a weirdo, there's also the option of making your proposal all about hating gay people.

"Pride month is so defeated," Smith shared on X, along with a photo of himself proposing to his girlfriend on one knee.

The repercussion: Many, many people pointed out just how sad and strange it is that after becoming engaged to his girlfriend, Smith's first thought was about gay people -- and how his heterosexual relationship was somehow "defeating" them.

Other, more savage replies mocked Smith's general appearance (because pretty much anything's fair game when you decide to take casual shots at marginalized people).

Hailey Welch

The characters: Hailey Welch aka the Hawk Tuah Girl

The plot: An interview recently made the rounds, in which Hailey Welch's answer -- to a question about what "makes men go crazy" -- instantly became her nom de guerre. Asked by YouTubers Tim & Dee TV, in Nashville, Welch's answer was as innocent and wholesome as it was NSFW.

The repercussion: A silly sex joke that took on a life of its own. The story should have ended there, but, alas, this is the internet, where 15 minutes of fame can quickly turn into something more devious and out of control. So out of control that a Hollywood agency had to deny that she was being signed, which isn't surprising considering how fast these things happen. There are Hawk Tuah autographs out there, along with merchandise, hats, explainer videos and even rumors.

Something I find fascinating, is that far right turds are genuinely nasty, extremely miserly, jealous and conniving miscreants. You'd expect them to look like proper villains. But when you see them at their gatherings, they are always podgy, soft looking, poofy pillows who you just know, would shit themselves if they got lost in a small suburban park.
